Simon

Percheron Cross Gelding
Simon was a very timid horse at first. He was particular about who he trusted and who he would allow near him. He came to us when his dad's cancer made it too difficult to continue to care for him. Simon’s dad loved him very much, he had him for over 17 years and was with him when he passed away. We were told Simon used to have a very good friend who would visit him every day, but when she passed away unexpectedly he had trouble connecting with anyone else...until he met a very special volunteer named Jess. He took to her immediately and she created a special feed and care plan for him while visiting him almost every day to brush him and tell him how much she loved him.
Simon had lived in solitude for many years before joining our herd, we loved watching him thrive during this last summer with his new equine friends. Simon started rapidly losing weight as fall approached. Testing showed elevated white blood cells which indicated his body was fighting an infection. He started antibiotics immediately and Jess fostered him so he could get the specialized care he needed. Unfortunately Simon was too old to fight off the infection, he became too weak to stand without wobbling and we had to make the very hard choice to end his suffering. Simon passed peacefully and surrounded by many people who loved him.
